New American McGee Alice Game Pitch Rejected by EA
Developer American McGee has said that his pitch for a new Alice game, Alice: Asylum, has been rejected by Electronic Arts. The company has also refused to license the IP let alone consider selling it.
American McGee has been working on a new Alice game for several years
Alice: Asylum has been in the works for a number of years. McGee assembled a team of developers who worked on the concept and put together a comprehensive pitch for what would have been the third game in the series.
In an update on his Patreon, McGee revealed that EA has “decided to pass on the project based on an internal analysis of the IP, market conditions, and details of the production proposal.” When asked if it would consider licensing the IP, EA told McGee that Alice is “an important part” of its overall portfolio, and the company has no plans to license or sell it.
As a result, McGee has given up on Alice altogether and has decided to leave the industry for good.
“I have no other ideas or energy left to apply toward getting a new Alice game made, nor do I have any interest in pursuing new game ideas within the context of the current environment for game development,” McGee wrote.
