Horizon Zero Dawn 20 Million Sales
Horizon Zero Dawn has sold more than 20 million copies across PS4 and PC. The title managed to reach the milestone back in November 2021 although Guerrilla Games chose now, a week before the release of the game’s sequel Horizon Forbidden West, as the best time to reveal the game’s achievement.
The success of Horizon Zero Dawn
While selling more than 20 million copies, the game’s popularity increased further thanks to PlayStation Play at Home freebies and a couple of stints in PlayStation Now. Players have managed to accumulate a massive 1 billion hours played in the post-apocalyptic world according to PlayStation Blog. The game had managed to generate $400 million in revenue in 2019 although more recent figures for this are unavailable. Since the game’s release there has been apparel, comics, music, and tabletop games in a merchandising line called Horizon Raw Materials, as well as a variety of other memorabilia. There’s even rumors of an upcoming Tallneck LEGO set.
Of course, the biggest sign of success is the production of a sequel. Horizon Forbidden West is due to be released on February 14 and continues the story that began in Zero Dawn. To celebrate this, Sony has released a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming game. Viewers beware that it does hint at a spoiler so if you want to go into the game and have all of its surprises unspoiled, you may want to skip this one and not read any further.
One of the most requested features that is likely to be coming to the game is flying mounts. While we don’t see Aloy taking to the skies on the back of a machine, the final seconds of the trailer show a tame flying machine land behind her. I guess we’ll find out for sure next week.
In other news, Horizon Forbidden West is available to pre-load now. Those with slower internet sppeds will want to make use of the full week to download the 86GB game. Elsewhere, reports are suggesting Dead Island 2 is still in development years after its initial reveal and that it may even release soon.
