GTA Trilogy Sales Exceed Expectations
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition has apparently sold gangbusters despite being universally panned and being plagued by launch issues akin to the infamous Cyberpunk 2077. We knew the trilogy sold well as Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously mentioned how it has “done just great for the company,” and while no sales figures were officially revealed, some clever math by folks over at Video Games Chronicle suggests that the sales figure sits somewhere around ten million.
GTA Trilogy sales “significantly exceeded expectations”
GTA Trilogy’s sales surpassed Take-Two’s expectations, according to a new earnings report. But how did VGC arrive at ten million? Well, Take-Two revealed that the entire series has sold over 370 million copies to date, which includes over 160 million copies of GTA V. Prior to GTA Trilogy’s release, these figures stood at 355 million and 155 million, respectively. That leaves a gap of about ten million associated with the series that’s not GTA V, so common sense dictates that GTA Trilogy has a role to play here.
Zelnick was recently called out for referring to GTA Trilogy’s launch woes as a “glitch” but if these numbers are any indication, they were indeed just a glitch for the company. “Going forward, we remain highly focused on quality, and we are exceedingly confident in all of our upcoming releases,” Zelnick told investors who quizzed him about GTA Trilogy’s issues.
Opinion: GTA Trilogy’s sales figure speaks for itself
Zarmena writes… The title “Grand Theft Auto” is a gift that keeps on giving. Despite an overwhelmingly negative response by critics and players (online at least), the GTA Trilogy remaster sold within months millions more than hits like Ghost of Tsushima do over the course of a year or more. That goes to show the power and value of the GTA brand. The good news is, Grove St. isn’t making GTA 6 and Rockstar is known for its quality of products.
In other news, Horizon Zero Dawn PC players have discovered an unused character model that turns Aloy into a duck, and we’re close to seeing The Wolf Among Us 2.
